Next time you reach out for that packaged food in the supermarket, think again. A new global survey has found that packaged food and drinks made in India are one of the unhealthiest in the world based on sugar, salt, saturated fat, and calories in the items. This conclusion was derived after analyzing food samples from 12 countries. It is a matter of concern as a huge urban and rural population is consuming food products that are high in salts, sugar, and harmful fats. These unhealthy foods are raising the burden of dietary diseases in the country. The study also pointed out that most developing countries need to work with food companies to re-evaluate the health and nutrition of packaged food.
