As per a recent study, higher than normal levels of antibiotics are found in cow’s milk available in the market. Antibiotics commonly used in veterinary medicine are harmful to the health of humans and ruminant animals. These antibiotics are known to inhibit the growth of natural bacteria found in the intestines of cows and can affect the quality of milk. The study suggests a dire need to screen milk for antibiotic residues so that harmful contamination can be reduced before it reaches the end consumer.
