A global study done a decade back had found that high consumption of salt was one of the biggest causes of various diseases. Post the study, campaigns were launched to make people aware of the dangers of eating excess salt. While some developed countries mindfully tried to reduce the intake of salt, Indians continue to eat high levels of salt. As per a recent study, salt intake in India is almost double at 10gms per day as against the amount recommended of 5gms per day by WHO. Researchers feel there is an urgent need for nationwide salt reduction policies to make people healthier.
