An unhealthy diet, excess weight, high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high cholesterol are main contributors to ischaemic heart disease, stroke and diabetes. In 1990, 10 percent of all diseases in India were caused by these factors. By 2016, the percentage had risen to 25 percent. All states of the country are equally impacted, so there is an urgent need for comprehensive steps to bring the situation under control.
