Regular meditation may help alertness and focus

Researchers in the US have measured long-term effects of meditation on maintaining alertness, focus and cognitive abilities. Participants attended a three-month-long meditation retreat, and were assessed six months, eighteen months and seven years later. Participants who meditated regularly retained some of the benefits gained from the retreat even seven years later. However, the advocacy of meditation to maintain and improve function of the brain in older people needs more research.
