Lack of proper nutrition seems to be a greater problem than expected in India. While malnutrition, mainly low birth weight, continues to be a leading factor for deaths in children below five years of age, obesity has increased multi-fold in the 2-4 year age group. In a country where a large part of the population is not able to get enough food to survive, obesity is way ahead of the accepted norm. A recent study has estimated the overweight problem in children to increase by almost 17.5% in the coming years, against the target of 3% set by WHO and UNICEF
