Ever wondered if the stark images on cigarette packets help people quit smoking, yes, says the study. As per a survey over 2121 participants across age groups in rural and urban India, it is found that pictorial warnings covering 85% of the tobacco packaging are much more effective than ones covering 40%. The study highlights that large health warnings with plain packaging is even more effective and prompts existing users to quit and deter new ones to take up the habit. A move that was opposed by the tobacco industry all these years, citing lack of research evidence.
