Taking iron supplements may not be enough to prevent anaemia. A study of 2,400 school children in New Delhi has shown a significant relation between fluoride intake and anaemia. Fortunately, there are some simple solutions – avoiding fluoride-rich rock salt, using low-fluoride toothpaste and eating nutritious vegetables in daily diet can increase haemoglobin levels within a month. In pregnant women also, anaemia can be treated by removing fluoride from their diet.
